Moments in time
She began to question what is actually hardwired to happen, through our genetic make up and the many ways we are affected by places, objects, experiences, and people we meet along life’s journey. With this in mind, through her work, Cherrie raises the questions: what can be preserved and what resists preservation - what stories will we pass on, to future generations, through the things we create? What do we want to keep and protect, so that they can endure physically and emotionally and across generations?
Cherrie Trained and worked as a museum and gallery curator, so is passionate about the many stories embodied in objects and collection displays. Now retired, she enjoys having more time to observe the world around her and to capture, create and display ‘moments in time’ in her metaphorical Cabinet of Curiosity.
Shortly after she retired, both of Cherrie’s parents passed away in 2020 and a year later, she became a grandma for the first time. These events made her aware that her roles in life had changed and she started to explore ideas, in her art work, relating to life cycles, transience, continuity and vessels
Human and natural life appears, blossoms, fades and decays. We inhabit the earth for a relatively short period of time but each object we create, find meaning in, or that gets left behind, represents a moment in time and leaves a fresh layer of history.
